Change is unavoidable. Schools have no choice but responding to the dev elopments that take place around them at an ever increasing pace. Yet, there are only too many instances of educational change that come to nothing. Change is not a linear but a complex process. Deep change often requires teachers to change their beliefs, which may lead to loss of identity and subsequently to gut resistance. If no learning takes place, higher order change will not be implemented, and sustainable improvement remains a pipe dream.
