Education is all about change, exciting but sometimes discomforting. Change needs to be embedded in communicable and workable policies and enacted in classroom practices in order to be sustained. Sustaining involves constantly monitoring of change and keeping an open mind as to further improvements with new practices in new settings as these arise. Leadership is crucial and needs to be widely distributed to ensure that the anchoring of new practice is sustained and dev eloped by a web of expertise and leadership. Sustainability also involves environmental and ethical concerns deriving from decisions that are made about such changes and the impact of these on the communities around us. These issues will be explored in this presentation and the implications for schools.
